Fun Monday - My Quirky Thing

It's Fun Monday time again and our hostess is the lovely Jan and she would like to know what is the quirkiest thing in your home that you will never give away?

To help us figure out what might qualify as "quirky", here is the Children's Scholastic Dictionary's definition of quirky:
Quirk-y: (kwerky) A peculiar trait or strange way of acting.
adjective: informal terms; strikingly unconventional [syn: {far-out}, {kinky}, {offbeat}, {way-out}]

Well Jan, I am sure some FM participants may have thought this was not an easy assignment. However, for me it was quite easy, as one particular item came to mind the minute I read your assignment.

It was five years ago that the hubby and I attended a Poes Crows Bull Roast in MD where they had a silent auction. After getting into a bidding war and over $100 later, we became the proud owner of this:

The blue crab is one of the most recognizable icons of the Chesapeake Bay. Millions of blue crabs are harvested every year in MD. Since we are originally from MD, and since we love to eat steamed crabs, this was something that caught our eye! He hangs proudly on the wall overlooking our kitchen.

Please be sure to check out the other FM participants here.

My mouth is watering just looking at that huge crab. Cant wait for summer and having crabs, corn on the cob and of course BEER, cant eat crabs without it.

Heehee...I live in MD and don't like shellfish :-) *sigh* Talk about feeling out of place! Great post and happy FM to you!

Ha! That is a great one! I would, however, feel guilty eating crabs in front of his watchful eyes!

Yes, yes!!!! But, my oh my....I'd say even bidding $10.00 for a blue crab is quirky...but over $100? Whoa.

Kinda pretty tho.

Happy Fun Monday.

Do you ever cook his brethren under his watchful eyes???

I'd say that for $100, that's pretty darned quirky!

That's a lot of money isn't it? Still, he looks great, you should treasure him!

That's great, $100 for a crab - wow. My sign is a crab (born in July) so I can understand wanting that.

Ha! I was waiting for the music this time! LOL! Great song too!

Now that is a great crab, is it real? My son would just drool over that! He is always looking for crabs, when he was three we used to go climb on the rocks at the beach all rugged up in the windy cold and go "Frab Hunting!" It was his favourite pass time. He is of course a big boy now at 9 and roles his eyes when I remind him of his pronunciation but it was so cute!

I've had crabs heaps of times and I didn't pay anything for them, only to get rid of them!

Just kidding, great artefact.

Hmmm, crab is mighty tasty. This is a perfect and interesting memento of your home state.

The family crest--a MD blue crab! And I'm sure that seeing this hanging up every day reminds you of the fun you had in making the winning bid. Had you had very much experience with auctions in the past? If not, I suppose the best thing to remember is to not show the auctioneer more excitement than your wallet can afford!

A handsome looking crab indeed, but not sure I would want those eyes following my every move. LOL

I think it's a fun trinket! Love the coloring of him! And I am amazed at how many of us have quirky things laying around. :)

If you're ever in the Westminster area on a Tuesday or Wednesday, BluePoint Crabhouse has $1.00 crabs. They are located next to the old Pizza Hut in 140 Village. I stopped on my way home from work last Tuesday when it was icy to pick up a dozen. They were delicious!!!

Sorry it took so long for me to get around to visiting for FM. I am so glad I did though.
