Fun Monday - A Walk Down Memory Lane

Jo with Chocolate and Other Things is our Fun Monday hostess today and she has requested us to:

...tell me something fun about your mother and/or her mother. What fun, weird, laughable memories do you have of your Mom or your Grandma?

For those who personally know me and my mom (aka Life According to Jan and Jer) it is no secret that we are practically best friends. I have shared and continue to share many fun, weird and laughable times with my mom, but today I would like to share one particular funny memory of my mom which took place about 20 years ago (give or take a year or two - mom probably knows the exact year).

First, you need to click the below video and then read the rest of the story.

It was around the year 1990. My mom had recently divorced from my Dad and she was a single lady who liked going out "dancing". One of her favorite places she frequented was a happening Piano Bar in downtown Baltimore, known as "Little Diddy's".

Mom ended up winning a Lip Syncing contest at "Little Diddy's", which was sponsored by the local radio station. There were several other contestants who also won, and a final competition was held where all the contestants came together to compete for the reigning championship. Mom's win included many items, some of which I do not remember. One thing she did win was a limo ride to the final competition. (pictured below - click on image to enlarge).

She was so cute in her black and white polka dotted size 2 dress. She is sitting next to the Blues Brothers, who ultimately won the final competition. For those who grew up in the Doo Wop era, you probably remember this song well. It was the song my mom lip synced to!

To this day I still can't believe she was even in such a contest. She sure did have guts to stand out there on that dance floor in front of many friends, family and strangers and lip sync her heart out! It was certainly a silly memory I will cherish forever!

Please check out the other FM participants here.

I had no idea Jan was your Mom. What a great memory you shared. I'm just holding my breath, hoping my daughter doesn't post this FM. My hubs is laughing, hoping she does.

OK...hi, this is me, the village idiot! I didn't realize the fabulous Janis was your mom! (This is typical of me, I'm often clueless about things that are obvious to others.) I knew you were very close friends but didn't realize you were related! Very, very cool.

And what a great story! I've come to "know" your mom through her blog posts and she is just terrific. And this fabulous story gives us some more insight into this remarkable lady. I don't think I would've had the nerve to get up on stage for anything! Anyway, happy FM to you, and thanks for sharing!
