Fun Monday - Love and Marriage

FUN MONDAY

I can't believe it's Monday already! Too bad. The weekend was sunny and unseasonably warm here in the State of Southern PA. Everyone was busy mowing lawns, planting flowers, biking, boating, hiking and just being outdoors enjoying the beautiful summer like weather.

Now it's back to the usual mundane routine, but there is always something to look forward to at the beginning of each week and that is reading and participating in Fun Monday! This week, our fun loving hostess is Hoosier Girl and she has picked a very romantic Fun Monday topic:

Love and Marriage. What I want to know is: what do you consider important to a good marriage or relationship? Tell us a story of something endearing about your marriage or your parents' marriage. Include any wedding pictures or images of love that remind you of what a good relationship should be.

I have written about my love story once before, here, (if you care to read it). I have been married to my soul mate, best friend and lover for 16 years in October. We have 2 beautiful girls who are 10 and 12, and a beautiful home in the country. I am truly blessed. Of course, as in any normal marriage, we have our good days and bad days. Fact is, it takes work on both parts to keep a marriage healthy and strong. Throughout the years we have always kept our sense of humor and the lines of communication wide open. We give each other space while still maintaining physical love and affection on a daily basis. We nurture and support each other and we allow each other to be our own person. I could not ask for a better mate to share my life with!

There is one unique experience I share with my mom and my sister, and that is we all three wore the same wedding dress. First, my mom (aka, Life According to Jan and Jer) wore the dress when she married the second time around to Jer. A few years later, I wore the dress when I married Freedom Writer and lastly my sister (aka, Count Your Blessings) wore the dress when she married her first husband. A few little adjustments here and there, and it was the perfect dress for three lovely weddings!

Some people ask us the secret of our long marriage. The truth is, we take time to go to a restaurant two times a week, a little candlelight dinner, soft music and dancing. I go on Tuesdays, and he goes on Fridays! Bwahhhahhhhhhaaa!! By the way, the secret of a happy marriage remains a secret!

Loving thoughts,

The message that marriage takes work needs to be put out there more often. Too many people believe in "happily ever after" fairy tale endings -- but as you know, a marriage isn't an end, it is a beginning.

Wonderful story (actually stories - I visited your love story post too)! Thank you for sharing! Hee, I just came over from Jan's and I thought that wedding dress looked familiar! What a lovely tradition. Happy FM to you!

PS I am also totally depressed that it's Monday already. I had a wonderful weekend filled with biking and visiting an art show. (And shopping at that art show, ahem.) I need a vacation :-)

I always said you two make the perfect couple. You have so many years together and from what I can see, they have been happy ones. Glad you mentioned the wedding dress, that is pretty neat to have shared that with my two lovely daughters. Wish I were still that size. Happy years equal happy pounds!!!

Anything worth having is worth working for. Marriage is included in that. You seem to know the value of both the work and the partnership!

I love that you go out on different days. ha ha! we have only been out by ourselves once with the baby (no babysitter or prospects of one, and we're moving again within the week).... and it was nice to be out, but we were so worried about her crying or making noise that it wasn't any better than being at home.

Church Lady, my good friend Sally has an excellent marriage because she and her husband, like you, make it a point to get out of the house for some entertainment--but not at the same time! Love that line. A lovely tradition to share a wedding dress. Maybe if the first sharing results in a good marriage, the ones who follow will be lucky.

You are a lovely bride in the beautiful wedding dress, and the Freedom Writer is a handsome groom.
