Sinful Church Lady

So much is going on. Geez. I just don't know where to start. Well, I guess I could start with the fact that apparently, it's our yellow lab, Cooper's birthday. The vet reminded me by e-mailing Cooper a personalized birthday greeting card. I can't believe I forgot his birthday, nor can I believe the vet sent him a personalized greeting card. You can view it here if you choose to be amused.  He is now 3 years old and still has alot of puppy left in him!  He is currently on a diet, though. He needs to lose about 10-15 lbs. We have him on Fit-N-Trim and it seems to be helping. At least his belly isn't bulging anymore. We supplement his diet with green beans, apples, and carrots. It is my goal to get him on the treadmill. He needs more exercise and with all the snow, it isn't easy to run him outside.

Speaking of pets, our cat, Kiki is in need of a complete shave again. She is at the vet now getting all pretty. She is a long-haired cat and she develops terrible, painful mats every year. So, once a year about this time, we have her shaved. I will post a picture of her after she comes home from her grooming appointment.

I can't believe it is Friday already. My oldest daughter, Funny Face, is going to her first formal school dance tonight. She is going with a group of her friends and then they will be coming back here to spend the night. I will not see her prior to the dance, as she will be getting ready at her friend's house. It is not easy watching both of my little girls grow into mature young women.

Nature Girl (my youngest) was showered with many generous gifts from her "boyfriend" on Valentine's Day.  Please, for the love of God, tell me this boyfriend thing is not happening. I am just not ready for all the drama and heartache. But, the fact of the matter is - - it is happening, right before my very eyes and there is no slowing it down.

We attended the Ash Wednesday service this week, which begins the 40 day season of Lent. Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance and originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter. By observing the forty days of Lent, individual Christians imitate Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. Some people fast during this time or they sacrifice something they love, like coffee or sweets. Our pastor gave one suggestion I thought was very interesting and that was to give up valuable "time" by reading more of the Bible. I liked his idea and so, instead of giving up cursing, which my kids said would never last the entire 40 days, I am going to take the time to read more of the Bible and daily devotions. And in the meantime, I am going to try to watch my tongue, which brings me to the next subject.

Do you think I should change the title of my blog from "diary of a church lady" to "diary of a (sinful) church lady"? I try to live my life the best way I know how on a daily basis, but so far this year, I have not won any "Best Mom Awards" or "Best Wife Awards". I think when my family dubbed me the Church Lady nearly 3 years ago, they had in mind the Dana Carvey skit from Saturday Night Live. And because I am a church secretary, they thought the name was "fitting". Don't get me wrong, I don't mind being called the Church Lady at all, cause' I am in fact a lady who goes to church and works at a church and is a faithful, God loving person. I just don't want to mislead my readers with such a glorious, angelic title. I am a Church Lady, but I am a good, genuine, truthful, loving, thoughtful, caring, and sometimes sinful Church Lady.

Hope your Friday is going well.  I will be posting more pics of Kiki and Funny Face this weekend so pop back in for a peak!

Don't that describe all of us. We all sin, in one way or another. I can't remember word for word but if we say were without sin we're lying. We all have faults, so my vote is keep the name just as you have it.

Church Lady is fine. I don't think 'sinful' is you, further it sounds more 'exotic' or onery & you are just a sweet person. So just be the 'Church Lady' and we'll all still love you, as you are.

Church Lady suits you just fine. Speaking of Wednesday's Ash Wednesday service. I had mentioned the fact that I was going to fast and my goal was Spiritual growth to a few people at church. Before the Ash Wednesday service a choir member asked me if I had started yet and then the others wanted to know more about my fast, so I told them. Then Pastor Scott preached his Lenten Service about not tooting your own horn if your fasting or giving something up for Lent. The choir was pointing their fingers at me and laughing throughout the service. I told Pastor Scott I have never been so humiliated in all my life. I am just mortified and don't know when I may get over this experience.

Don't change the title of your blog - it's perfect. And I really want to see those pics of you cat - never heard of a cat getting shaved every year. You have piqued my interest.

I love your blog title! And yes, even church lady's are sinful...we all are.

I laugh when I think of your blog title...wisdom is a trait of God, but so is humor!

First off--happy birthday to my man Cooper. From Prettyboy Vets no less-ha! Willie only gets a cute postcard--he wants to go virtual too!

And I'm with your other commenters. Don't change your blog title. I remember seeing your blog title for the first time in the Fun Monday signup and thinking this blog friendship won't go very far. Surprise! I love your writing and the personality that comes through. You're a real person working on a real life that has joy and meaning. And we all know that bloggers are hip enough to know about The Church Lady1 :-)

Well, it never occurred to me to think your blog name meant you thought you were perfect. I think you're fine as things are.
