Inside Looking Out

The huge amount of snow that was dumped on us in February sent the birds and other critters on a ravenous hunt for food.  Our bird feeder was several hundred feet from the house in the deep snow, completely empty. So, we sprinkled out some wild bird seed on  a bare brick retaining wall near the house. It didn't take long for the wildlife to find it.

Nature Girl was able to capture these photos from the house inside looking out:

The blue jay cautiously approaches the seed and flies back and forth from the trees for several helpings.

The gray squirrel confiscates the pile of bird seed and nibbles it up until his belly's content.

The red-headed woodpecker's incessant pecking echos through the barren woods, as she drills hastily for insects among the trees.

**Swampy steps up to microphone, clears her throat, and sings**
He rocks in the tree tops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birdies on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet tweet tweet

Rockin' robin, tweet tweet tweet
Rockin' robin' tweet tweetly-tweet
Blow rockin' robin
'Cause we're really gonna rock tonight

Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flappin' their wings singing go bird go

Rockin' robin, tweet tweet tweet

Yeah yeah

Pretty little raven at the bird-band stand
Told them how to do the bob and it was grand
They started going steady and bless my soul
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriol

Great shots nature girl. At this point, the birds would do anything for a free handout even if it means getting closer then usual.

I love these pictures. I've only seen one blue jay here, though we've had a woodpecker a few times. Glad to see the squirrel got his share, too!
