Birthdays and Zebra Print Bikinis

June is such a busy month for us. Not only are there the end of year school activities, graduations, weddings, Father's Day celebrations and baptisms, but both of my girls celebrate their birthdays this month. There isn't a single weekend in June that is not booked with an activity or celebration of some sort. And of course all of these celebrations do not go by without spending a dime.  Just ask my now, 14 year old girl who threw a birthday bash for 20 of her closest friends, including boys last Friday night.  Her original  list totaled 80 guests. I informed her that was about 40 too many.

Yikes! She is 14. My oldest daughter is now 14 years old. I was 14 years old when I met FW (my hubby). I remember it like it was yesterday. In fact, when I met FW in the summer of 1982 at a local swim club, I was wearing a black and white zebra print bikini. FW remembers it well too.

Today, my 14 year old daughter purchased a black and white zebra print bikini while on a shopping spree with Wonder Woman (my step-MIL). This ironic incident made me remember what it was like to be 14 years old...boy crazy and sassy.

At 14, she has suddenly gone from that "cute little girl" look to the "hot young woman" in the bikini look. I want to embrace her and hold onto her innocence for as long as I can, but I can't stop her from growing up and maturing and becoming a beautiful young woman.

If anyone knows how to stop the aging process in my children, please feel free to lend me your secret!

Okay, where's the picture of you in a zebra print bikini? Both of my girls has their birthdays in June also. So I feel your pain. July isn't much better either my Mom, MIL, and step-FIL bdays are in July. This year we're doing bday/family reunion since my Mom will be 75.

When I turned 14 I was allowed to invite two friends roll skating with me. Times have changed.

Please don't stop the aging process. Cross you fingers and hope for the best. It should be fun to watch this young girl grow into a very beautiful woman - along with all her adventures. (May they all be good).

happy belated birthday to your daughter; she looks like she has a great bunch of friends (although only half of who she wanted there, LOL; too cute) how interesting she bought a similar type of bikini when she was 14 years old. I wish I knew how to stop the aging process with these kids of ours. I can only hope her teen years won't be turbulent and will go smoothly :)

Wow! I love that picture. There's such an attitude and innocense with all the kids...even the boys. I'll keep a watchful eye on our Carley girl from my bus. Don't tell her.
