Dying Of Thirst

We have not had rain here in weeks. Perhaps even a month. The once lush green grass has turned a crunchy brown, the vibrant colored flowers are wilting and the crops are suffering. The brutal summer sun continues to beat down upon us daily and there is no promise of rain in the near future. We need rain, badly.

Signs of stressed crops at a nearby farm show the corn's leaves curling and pointing upward toward the sky trying to retain every bit of moisture.

The ends of the leaves are turning a yellow brown and shriveling up from the dryness and the hot sun.

Even the farms that are using irrigation methods in their fields say the heat just sucks all the moisture out of the plants.

If only this irrigation method would help.
Please pray for rain in my corner of the world.

will say a pray that rain comes to your area. It is hard when it starts affecting the crops indeed; I bet lots of farmers are praying too for the relief of heat and lots of rain

Who knows a really good rain dance? I was just noticing today how the drought is affecting the corn.

I hear you. I just read today in the newspaper that all but Western MD is in an "agricultural drought" meaning that we still have enough water in the drinking tables and reservoirs because of the wet winter, but the crops are dying of thirst. They predicted the yield to be at about 1/4 volume if we don't get rain soon and frequently.

I was just thinking how much I take for granted the abundance of water in my corner of the country. (Although, I guess if I think about it, I'm not taking it for granted, right?) Hope you get some water soon.

I had no idea it was drought there.
I wonder what the chinese lettering says above ? ? ? perhaps it is a rain chant, too?

Crunchy grass here, too. It did rain yesterday for the first time in weeks. It seemed almost strange.

The corn looks the same way here. It finally rained some yesterday. And right now it is raining. One of those steady hopefully soaking rains. It has definetly cooled it off. We have been have heat indexes as high as 110-115.
