Getting Through Christmas Without A Voice

Do you know how hard it is to refrain from singing the traditional hymns at the Christmas Eve worship service?  I started out last Monday with a terrible cold, just in time for the holidays. And when Christmas Eve rolled around, my voice went out completely.

We celebrated Christmas Eve at my SIL's house and then went to the Christmas Eve candlelight worship service at 10:45 p.m. It was the worse timing to come down with laryngitis. Mingling at the party and not being able to engage in conversation was like being the invisible lady. And then not being able to belt out my loudest and most untuned voice to Silent Night at the worship service was pure torture. I love to talk and sing. Even if I can barely carry a tune in bucket!

Gradually I am beginning to get my voice back, except I sound like a big brawly man.  And besides my constant hacking and runny nose, I sound worse than I feel.

We had a wonderful Christmas Day Open House with lots of family visiting our home. It always comes and goes in the blink of an eye. I sure hope you all had a great Christmas with your families and loved ones. I am looking forward to the new year with great anticipation, as I have many projects planned and I can't wait to get started!

I will leave you all with this video of our special Christmas Eve reading at my SIL's house. My SIL coordinated the reading. Excerpts were taken from Ronald Reagan's radio address to the Nation on December 20, 1986. Several family members took part in the reading. I was supposed to read a part, but nooooooo, I couldn't be heard, so FW took my part.

What a great idea! That reading reinforced both family values and faith. Do you do something like that every year?

Such a wonderful meaningful thing to do. We should always remember and thank God for our many blessings in life...number one is a loving family.

I've lost my voice before, it doesn't hurt just frustrating. Didn't realize I had missed reading so many of your posts. Mashtini sounds wonderful. But how did you keep them hot, and not drying out?

My church choir prefers me to lose my voice, which is somewhat strange because it is so beautiful.

Sounds and looks like you had a great Christmas.

Btw, you made my "Cheeseroll" on the side of my blog as one of my favorites.

Sorry you've not felt well.
My suggestion: Get a Neti Pot and use it regularly !
And while I'm giving advice:
HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Oh how hard not to be able to sing at Christmas. I hope you are feeling a bit better now. I had a bad cold around Thanksgiving as well. So I know how you feel. Rest, rest, rest!
