Eggies - Do They Work?

Did you know that God created the chicken before the egg? According to the Bible, the chicken came first. Genesis 1:20-22: So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”

If you are not eating eggs, you are missing out on one of nature's great nutrition powerhouses. They are packed with vitamins and minerals and very low in calories.

Since FW and I eat eggs regularly, I thought it would be fun to try an "eggspirament" using "Eggies", a plastic mold used to hard boil eggs without the shell. Here is how our "eggspirament" went....

First, we prepared our "Eggies" by spraying the molds lightly with cooking spray. This prevents the cooked egg from sticking to the mold.

Tip: Use small to medium eggs in the molds or they will overflow.

Carefully crack the egg into the mold.

Place the plastic top on each mold and carefully put the mold in a pot of boiling water.

The directions say to boil the Eggies for 15 minutes, but they were not completely cooked after 15, so I recommend at least 17-18 minutes.  You will see the eggs begin to whiten.

Remove the Eggies from the boiling water and let cool for a few minutes, then pop them out of the molds and wa la! Perfectly boiled eggs without the shell!

While the Eggies do work if used properly, the total time and preparation, including clean-up took approximately 45 minutes for 6 eggs.

The idea is neat, but somewhat of a hassle.
I'm not eggsactly sure we'll be using this kitchen gadget ever again.

Reading your directions I couldn't help thinking, "but the eggs come with a natural "holder" for boiling. Then you said 45 min. . .We actually need a lot fewer gadgets than we have, don't we? BTW, not sure but we may have the same "china" pattern--Wal-mart? :-)

I just saw this on the TV when I was at the gym this morning. I was wondering how it would work. It does sound like a great idea but I agree with you, a bit of a hassle and time consuming. Thanks for the review of it; I think I'll continue to make them the old fashion way.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Ha! We have 2 sets of these that we got for Christmas, but haven't tried them yet. I thought they might be nice to use for deviled eggs. Perhaps I'll try them for that. I'm disappointed large eggs won't work. We generally guy large or extra large eggs. What a neat post! Thanks!

45 minutes...too much trouble in the preparation! Can you put them in the container n microwave them?? Faye is right...eggs come in their own natural container!! This is yet another gadget that will never be used again!
BTW I am excited that your hosting Quotography..its a fun meme!

Those eggs look eggceptional! But then I see how much time it takes, and well. Not gonna do it.

Happy New Year!

Hi, I'm visiting from My Perspective - So glad you decided to take over Quotography! When I first read that she was looking for someone I almost jumped in to say yes, but had to remind myself I already said yes to too many other things! ha

I think I may have to agree with you, 45 mintues is a bit long when you can do it in 20 without having to watch them. But kindof nice if you want them flat on one side . . . hopefully I won't forget and will see ya next Monday!
