Life Ends At 45....Or Does It?

According to this major study conducted in the UK in January of 2012, our brains start deteriorating at the age of 45, more than a decade earlier than what was previously thought.

Why am I concerned about this issue you may ask? Well because today is my birthday and based on calculations, I am officially 45 years of age. Most times when I am asked my age, I hesitate. Not because I don't want to reveal my age, but because I honestly have to think about the actual number.  Am I really 45 today? Why yes, yes I am. Seems the older I get, the less I want to keep track of my age.

Honestly though - health wise, I am grateful. I have been so blessed not to have had any major health concerns so far in my life. And other than the minuscule body aches and pains and occasional  fatigue, I feel better than I ever have. Unfortunately, part of the aging process delivers wrinkles, age spots, gray hair, etc. This I cannot change, as it is a natural development of my body that started the day I was born. This I cannot change, as it is a natural development of my body that started the day I was born...

So, in order to keep my brain as tarp as a shack sharp as a tack, I guess I will need to hone in on my chess skills, or solve some Sudoku puzzles. At least I am doing one thing right and that is my diet and physical exercise. Because what is good for the heart is also good for the head.

My nana always told me that we are only as old as we THINK we are. She also went with the saying If you don't use it, you lose it. The brain needs exercise just like the rest of the body. With that in mind, I am off to exercise mine. Take care and Happy Birthday Beautiful, you sure don't look 45.

Happy birthday Kelly! You look great!!! You are right though about keeping the mind sharp with games like crossword puzzles, etc. My mom did word search puzzles and other games and she was sharp as a tack at the age of 85!

I hope your day was a great one and that you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Your mommy sent me to wish you a happy birthday...and you DON'T look a day over 35....I should know because my daughter is 37. :) Now, they are wrong about when your brain starts to fizzle out...it starts at 55...at least for me it did. They say to do something new every day that you have to THINK about while doing it to keep your brain sharp. For instance, brush your teeth with your opposite hand. Yes, you WILL have to THINK about brushing your teeth. It's harder than you think. Have fun and try not to let age get you down. It's just a number.
