At That Age

The first week of school has come and gone already and so far, my girls have no complaints about any of their teachers or classes. It's hard to believe I have one in the seventh grade and one in the eighth. I know. I know exactly what you are thinking. Poor me, right? The middle school years have got to be the worst. Why yes, yes they are. The teen/middle school years are a challenge to say the least. My girls are at that age where they want that extra freedom. Time to go off with their friends. Independence from their parents. They are at that age where they struggle with their sense of identity. They are quite moody. They show less affection towards their parents. They demand privileges, but avoid responsibility. They are at that age where there is an increased interest in the opposite sex. They are at that age where they may want to experiment with drugs or alcohol. Yikes!

I am at that age where the gray hair and wrinkles will make their presence ever more noticeable.  I am at that age where it is legal to take prescription Xanex and drink alcohol to deal with the stress of having two teen girls. I am at that age where I will be a loving, caring, disciplinary. I am at that age where I will be a parent before a friend to my beautiful, middle school daughters.....

love your new blog look! your daughters are beautiful; wishing them a great school year ahead! Can't believe summer went by so fast! I do believe the teen years are the HARDEST with parents and their teens. I believe you will spend a lot of these days ahead in prayer :)

have a wonderful Labor Day!

They sound and look like great girls. I'm sure with your love and guidance that they will make wise choices. Some days I wish I had had a girl, but most days I am good with my boys.

Beautiful they are. These are hard years to deal with but just remember...this too shall pass. Everyone with kids have to go through this stressful stage in their lives. Hopefully your girls will learn to make good choices in life.

What a great time to see if the girls are as 'smart' as they are beautiful. It is a trying time for them-trying to find out who they really are-why? They don't know. I wish them the best for these 'teen' years. Hope they are honest with themselves and look out for each other. Yes Mom, be their best friend too.

Glad you're older then me so I can learn from your mistakes and successes. They're both good girls and you've already established rules and guidelines for them so let's hope they apply them to their everyday life.

P.S. LOVE LOVE your new blog header! I never saw those sunflowers...darn it!!

With prayer and love you (and they) will do just great! Remember, you went through this, too, and you turned out alright.

The new blog "do" is super!

WooHoo...Sunflowers. I love sunflowers. Some people call them weeds, but I don't care. I love those weeds.
Great new redecorating job over here.
Now, about those girls. Gorgeous ! Look at that blonde hair and beautiful faces. Middle school? Those were my favorite grades to teach. Someone had to love those kids, and I did. My guess is that you won't have much to worry about judging from what I know about you from our "friendship" on your blog.

Oops! Reading blog posts in the wrong order--see you just answered my questions about beginning of school right here. Your girls are so beautiful. It must be quite a challenge as a parent to walk that fine line between friending and parenting. Late last night I finished an excellent book that you may be interested in--I won't say enjoy because it tells of a shattering experience for any parent of a teenager. "Every Last One" by Anna Quindlen, published this summer.
