Season Of The Acorn
And by Acorn, I am not referring to the controversial Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now. I am talking acorns that fall from trees - - the tall oaks that make up 70% of my yard, and it's got me running for cover!
These years of abundant production are known as the "mast" years. Acorns may cover the area around an oak tree several inches deep in a mast year, but only produce a few handfuls the following year.
It is just one true sign that the fall season is knocking at my back door - - literally, as acorns plunge like cluster bombs with every gust of wind and litter my yard like a carpet of marbles.
