Taking Time To Reflect

Time has passed, but the memories of 9/11 remain forever.

Thousands of people gather daily to visit the 9/11 memorial and the twin reflecting pools.

There are 2,983 names inscribed on the bronze panels that surround both reflecting pools.

The waterfalls are 30 feet deep.

Each pool is 176 feet in perimeter.

Architects, Michael Arad and Peter Walker created the design. They were selected from a global design competition of more than 5,200 entries.

There are 400 swamp white oak trees planted around the memorial plaza.

Each pool pumps 26,000 gallons of water per minute.

Public admission is free to the memorial, but requires a reservation.

One World Trade Center towers over the 9/11 memorial site. The 1,776 foot building is scheduled to open for business in 2014.

It is a powerful reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a terror attack on American soil in all of American history.

Hard to imagine the massive destruction that was there at one time. It's incredible how beautiful and calming it is today
