Our Holiday Weekend

The whole gang on the 4th

I hope everyone had a very happy and memorable 4th! Some of you already know that we spent our weekend at Deep Creek Lake, MD. My dear, sweet Uncle John was very kind to once again let us vacation at his beautiful log home - THANK YOU! Some of you encountered a somewhat soggy 4th, as did we. It rained the entire day which put a damper on some of our planned activities. We didn't miss the festivities at the Honi-Honi, though. The Queen City Funk & Soul, an 11 piece band, played an array of funk and soul music, mostly from the 70's. Click this link for the band's web page http://www.queencityfunkandsoul.com/. Even the rain could not keep away the band's groupies, as everyone boogied with umbrellas in one hand and a cold beer in the other! The fireworks were cancelled on the 4th, but were re-scheduled for Sat. eve. By the way, if anyone in the family decides to go to the cabin over the 4th of July weekend, you can see the fireworks in plain view right from the end of the driveway!

On Saturday, the rain clouds dissipated and we were able to hike Swallow Falls and Muddy Creek Falls.
We also went to the Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI), which I have previously mentioned in other posts. If you have not already checked it out, you MUST see it for yourself. It is the ONLY mountain top white water course in the USA. The olympic team will be training there in two weeks. We also took part in a "Wilderness Rescue Program" at ASCI, where we learned how to rescue and/or help someone who has been injured in the wilderness. These pictures show someone with a "fake" injury and then we were shown how to care for his injuries.
On the last day of our mini vacation, we decided to check out the all season mountain coaster ride at the Wisp Resort. Click this link to see a video clip of the ride http://www.bookofjoe.com/2008/02/wisp-mountain-o.html. Hugh and the girls took the ride and they said it was great!

Once again, we had a very enjoyable time at Deep Creek. Thanks again to my Uncle and Aunt. You have been very gracious in sharing your beautiful log home with our family!
