Fun Monday - Book Worm Edition

My goodness where does the week go? It's that time again for Fun Monday. Angela and The Lurchers is hosting this week.

Our assignment is to firstly, tell what book we are currently reading, what it is about and whether or not we are enjoying the book.

Secondly, we are to tell what book we would not want to be without if we were stranded on a desert island.

Firstly, I am in between books right now. My last audio book I finished listening to was The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck, the popular conservative talk-radio show host. By the way, does audio count? I truly enjoy listening to books on audio and find that I get through them faster. Anyway, I already posted my review on The Christmas Sweater and if you would like to see my review click here. The Christmas Sweater is a warm and poignant tale of family, faith, and forgiveness that makes us question whether we really know what's most important in our own lives. I enjoyed the story tremendously and my two girls, who are 12 and 10, also became interested in the story, as I would play the CD the moment we got in the car until we would arrive at our destination.

As for my next book, who knows, maybe it will be one that is recommended by you! I do know that I tend to like non-fiction books, however I have also been known to venture out on a limb and read a fiction story every now and then, such as The Shack, by William P. Young. I could not put this book down and it happens to be one of my all time favorites. Which brings me to the second part of Fun Monday - what one book would we take with us on a desert island? Well, for me, it would not be The Shack, even though I was spiritually moved by Young's writing. The one and only book that I would never ever want to be without is my trusted Bible. Did you know that the Bible contains about 773,692 words! It would take you approximately 70 hours to read the whole Bible out loud. Also, "Do not be afraid" appears 365 times in the Bible. Hmm, same amount of days in a year! This phrase would be very comforting to me, especially if I were alone and stranded on a remote island in the middle of nowhere!

Well, that's all for Fun Monday. Click here to see what the other participants are reading.

I read fiction 80% of the time. These are two I've missed. I glad you enjoyed them so much.

I only recently discovered audio books and, like you, I'm a big fan. The last story I listened to was 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier; it took my just over a week to finish. Had I been reading it, I dread to think how long it would have taken me to reach the end!

I have heard of Glenn Beck and, if there were more hours in the day and if money were no object, I'd probably subscribe to the podcast of his show. You don't know how lucky you are in the States to have conservative talk radio and, for your sake (and mine!), I hope the Democrats fail in their attempt to introduce the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine'. Here in Australia most talk show hosts pride themselves on being non partisan, looking at issues from all perspectives and, more often than not, reserving judgement for fear of possibly offending some group or individual. Arghhh!!! Give me a talk show host who isn't afraid to take a position and defend it. That's why I enjoy listening to Dennis Prager and Mark Levin via podcast, and very rarely listen to Australian talk shows.

p.s I think you look good with both straight and curly hair, but if I have to choose, I'll go for curly.

Kelly, I will have to get the christmas sweater from you, it sounds like something I would enjoy. I am reading the Shack right now and love it. The bible is a perfect choice to have on a desert Island, it would give you great comfort.

I love audiobooks! Especially on a long car trip. I didn't know about the "Do not be afraid" thing!

Audio books....I listen to them while driving long distances. Other than that, I like to have in my hand a book. Yours that you last 'read'...sounds very good.

Good idea -- audio books. Would be wonderful if one traveled a lot.

Your choices are ones I would like to read -

Audio books are perfectly acceptable! A few people have mentioned The Shack - another book I need to look into!

I used to listen to a lot of audio books when I drove truck. I do like them but there is just nothing to compare to the smell and feel of a book in my hands.

Great post.
Thanks.

I never heard a audio book, one of my friend does when she is driving long distances, which is a good idea.

The Bible is certainly a good choice for someone called The Church Lady. (I look more like Dana Carvey's version of The Church Lady.) My sister sent us The Shack for my husband to consider as a choice to consider for his Sunday School class, but neither one of us has read the book yet.
