God Bless America!

"We on this continent should never forget that men first crossed the Atlantic not to find soil for their ploughs, but to secure liberty for their souls."
~ Robert J. McCracken

Independance day in America is really special. People all across the country in large cities to small-town America celebrate today by flocking to parades, family cook-outs, and different types of ceremonies. I will be celebrating today in Washington, DC, the capital of this great country, along with my family. We will be boarding a bus from MD at 7 a.m. and arriving in downtown DC around 8:30ish. The mission of our trip....another "Tea Party" event. We, along with 1,000's of other concerned Americans will be rallying in front of the Capitol Building. Several speakers will be at the event speaking out and motivating participants to continue to protest the socialist statism that we don’t believe in, celebrate the Constitution that we do believe in and taking action to restore limited government. This Tea Party (Taxed Enough Already) in DC will be one of thousands of AFA registered protests across the country.

I am looking forward to not only the relaxing bus ride into DC and spending quality time with my family, but for also learning and teaching my children more about our country's history and reinforcing that today's observance of Independance Day need not be totally politcal - just patriotic! Thanking God for our many blessings as a nation and praying for a renewal of the Country's moral and spiritual foundations is patriotic indeed! We need to remember our country in prayer and thanksgiving, praying for our leaders and giving thanks in all things. As a country, we are truly blessed.

The rally was full of great americans concerned about the direction of this country. The historical amount of spending by this president and congress is even giving Colin Powell a reason to speek out this week on CNN. The rallies are a way for people in a grass roots effort with no politicians present, dem. or rep. to voice their concerns.

Isn't it wonderful that we live in a country where we have every right to peacefully protest? I have been following the events in Iran with great concern. Whatever the ins and outs of their internal political situation, I am horrified at the violence with which people's protests have been put down. It makes me even more grateful to live here. Happy 4th!

I, too, believe there is too much government, but I am also aware that it wouldn't be there is we the people didn't ask for it and create it! As to too much taxation, I think a closer look should be taken on how and on what money is spent, but if the American public is going to demand services from their government, they're going to have to pay for them.

Folks need to be careful when they start shouting "throw the bath water out" that the baby isn't still in the tub. We can't have less government and all those services we've come to rely on. Kiss your fire department and those wonderful life saving EMTs good-bye. Our constitution doesn't say anything about paved roads, interstate highways, water treatment plants, county hospitals, public libraries, parks and recreation facilities, National Parks, sewage treatment plants and a whole host of other things.

Church Lady -- yes, I know. And I didn't mean to imply that I am happy with our government. I certainly am not and like you I fear they have too much power. My point was that (with the exception of the last several years) most every power the government claimed was GIVEN them willingly by the people. The protest doesn't so much need to be against the government as much as it needs to be in educating the people to stop giving our freedoms away.
