Jill, from Life is Not Bubble Wrapped has graciously hosted Fun Monday for the past two weeks! For February 22nd, our assignment is to perform at least one Random Act of Kindness and report back on our Fun Monday post.
Random acts of kindness come in many shapes and forms. Sometimes these acts are done without thinking about them or without planning them in advance - - they just happen. And sometimes, we plan these acts of kindness because we know that the recipient will appreciate the gesture. Today, I will share with you an act of kindness that was planned, but was also shared among many people.
A few weeks ago, my friend, Kendra gave me a loaf of Amish Friendship Bread and a starter batch. I had never heard of Amish Friendship Bread before, nor was I aware of the tradition behind it. The idea is to share countless loaves of bread baked in different kitchens that all began from the same batch of simple ingredients. It is a 10 day process and the detailed instructions let you know when to stir, when to add ingredients and when to bake. Eventually, you end up with 4 cups of the starter batch. One cup is used to make the bread (see recipe and instructions below). The other 3 cups is divided equally into 3 separate containers and given to three friends.
My girls took on the task of making the Amish Friendship Bread from the starter batch I received from Kendra. They went through all the steps and then shared their baked loaves with 3 of their friends, along with 3 starter batches and instructions. Now their friends can make their own and pass it on to their friends!
Amish Friendship Bread is not only a sweet, delicious bread, it is also a gift that keeps on giving. Choose a few friends and start this wonderful tradition, they'll thank you for it!

Thanks for hosting again Jill! Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I did this a few years back. It was fun. My cousin gave me my start, and I passed it on to my co-workers. IT is a neat way to teach your girls to cook and to share.
how fun! Thanks for playing!
I love Amish friendship bread. But after awhile I had to let my starter die, I was eating way too much yummy bread! There are lots of recipes on the internet for variations on the bread.
That's a wonderful idea, already the name is appealing "Friendship bread" !
My editor gave me a bag of starter once. It's kind of funny. He's a very quiet, non-people person and I think I might be the only person in the whole building he'll just talk to without it being business. And in he walks with this Amish Friendship Bread Starter! I made it and it was wonderful! And I passed it on.
Yum! I have done that before and it is fun.
What a beautiful gesture that is, especially using some traditional methods. I might have to give this a try at some point.
