Shoot Me #24 of 52

Is it Thursday already? Every Thursday I will be participating in "Shoot Me" hosted by Forever In Blue Jeans. You too can play. Click here to sign up and to see the other participants. Here are the rules:

Shoot Me! It's time to stop hiding behind that camera of yours. Your family is missing you in the picture. So it's time to post a picture of YOU (yes, you) every Thursday with your child, your spouse, your friend, your dog, or even by yourself. Just get in the picture, you'll be glad you did!

This photo was taken on August 28, 2010 in Washington DC. I am pictured here with my family and my SIL, Lori on the far right. See the Washington Monument behind us? The monument, completed in 1884 and built to commemorate the first U.S. president, George Washington, is the world's tallest stone structure. Can you see the difference in the color of the marble visible about 150 feet up? Construction on the monument was halted for a number of years due to the civil war and lack of funds. When construction resumed, the builders were unable to find the same quarry stone used in the initial construction and, as a result, the bottom third of the monument is a slightly lighter shade than the rest.  So there you have it. A bit of a U.S. history lesson today!

That is a fun, touristy-kind of shot. I like it. (Thanks for the history lesson, too...I'd never heard/seen that before.)

Very cool! Thanks for the history trivia. I didn't know that. I have friends who live in DC and they are after TNT and I to come visit. Just haven't found the time yet.
