Fun Monday - Music To My Ears

Once again this week, Ari is hosting the popular weekly meme, "Fun Monday". Her assignment is simple.

What is the most beautiful sound in the whole world? Once you've told us that, give us the flip side, too: What is the sound you dislike the most?

This is a easy one for me, I was just relaxing in our sitting room listening to my youngest daughter, Nature Girl play the piano. Both of my girls have been playing for 2 years now. They take lessons once a week and have a recital once a year. From time to time they will play in church too. The piano is the most beautiful sound in the world to me and it is even more beautiful when my daughter is playing:

Ari also asked us to share a sound we dislike. Well Ari, there are many sounds I despise, like my alarm buzzer on a cold and rainy Monday morning, my dryer buzzer after I just sat down to relax, a dog incessantly barking in the middle of the night or fingernails on a chalk board. But the sound I dislike the most is the sound of a fire engine or ambulance siren. Whether it is far off in the distance or zooming by me, this sound makes my heart sink. I can't help but think about the poor person(s) in need of emergency care and I stop and pray that everything will be okay.

You too can play Fun Monday. Click here to sign up and/or to see the complete list of participating blogs. Thanks for hosting Ari!

Sirens always lead me to prayer, too.

I enjoyed listening to your daughter play.

Good job Case...the girls are doing great with the piano. Hope they continue...they wont be sorry! I also dread the sound of sirens...it makes me feel anxious!

I love piano music (and violin music)! I wish I could play. People who see me type assume that I play piano too - but I don't. I'm just dyslexic enough that I can't read music (believe me, I've tried), but I love to sit down and plink something out from time to time. My son has the gift of playing by ear - I hope he'll want lessons too!

Nails on a chalkboard, or utensils on a dinner plate. Hate that scraping noise, too!

Interesting Meme. Gets me thinking. Ambulance siren is very true for me as well. Especially the closer it gets.

My first response is my grandson's voice when he it talking to me. Piano is another. Thank you for sharing you daughter playing! Please don't let the girls stop learning piano. When I was about their age I was taking piano lessons but I guess I wanted to stop. So I never learned. I really wish my parents had made me practice and continue with lessons. Several people I know parents made them continue even when they begged to quit and they are so glad that their parents did. I have always wished that my girls had taken lessons but my husband said we didn't have room for a piano and at the time we didn't.

Ah,lovely. How sweet the way that little hand drifts off the keys at the end of her piece. Hope they continue to enjoy their lessons.

I too get anxious when there's sirens and flashing lights in our neighborhood since it doesn't happen real often. Especially fear house fires in the winter. And remind Cooper that barking labs don't get cheetos!

Thanks for reminding me about piano playing. As a child I'd listen delightedly to my father playing the piano.
We're on a training route for police advanced drivers so sirens don't have quite the same impact, unless there's an ambulance heading down the road.

I hope she continues to find joy in playing. Thank you for the reminder. My daughter never ended up playing the piano, but has such a golden voice, so much like Faith Hill. It is lovely to listen and watch your children share a talent with others.

Your daughter does a lovely job playing the piano. Being able to play the piano can give one a life-long skill as well as a joy for life.

Love piano music !
I totally forgot about the sirens. When I hear the helicopter fly over, headed toward The Monument, I know someone is in trouble. When I flies back over, headed to the hospital, I pray that whoever is in it will be ok.

I have always wanted to learn to play the piano...maybe this is the year.

When I was a child, I was taught that whenever I heard a siren, I was to make the sign of the cross and pray not only for those in trouble but for those responding. I still do.
